Our stamp design celebrating African American History and Culture was issued today in a ceremony at the new Smithsonian museum. Both Lonnie Bunch, the museum director, and Smithsonian Regent Chair David Rubenstein spoke eloquently about how important it is for people to visit NMAHHC and learn about America. As Americans, it’s our history and culture!

Art, literature, and design can provide quiet yet important messages in these days of discord. Thank you Washington Post for recognizing our efforts and those of the USPS: How the snowy-day on a postage stamp can help us rethink race in america.

We were fortunate to work with Smithsonian Books on this volume—a companion to the first religion-oriented exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History (opening in July 2017). “Objects of Devotion” looks at the role of religion in the U.S. until the mid-1800s through artifacts, people, and locations. Thanks to Laura Harger, Peter Manseau, and our own Ricky Altizer!

We had the pleasure of working with Monika Hischbichler and curator Camille Brewer from the Textile Museum on the exhibition “Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair.” It’s on display until July 24 and features some fabulous creations. Thanks to Dian Holton for her support!

Ten years ago Cara Cox (a former student and intern) designed a beautiful book called “Posters for the People: Art of the WPA.” Four years ago, Maribel Gray (also former student and current employee) wrote and designed her senior thesis about WPA posters and Modernism. Last month the USPS issued these stamps featuring WPA posters from the Library of Congress collection. Maribel helped design them and Cara was on our mind as we created them. It’s rewarding when former students make important contributions to the work we do in the studio. We hope you like the new stamps!

We were honored when Dennis O’Neil asked us to design the catalogue for “Process & Innovation: 20 Years of Partnerships in Print at Hand Print Workshop International.” It’s an exhibition he curated of artwork he produced with notable local and International artists (closes on Sunday)! Great reviews in the Washington Post, on WETA, and other places. See the show!
