Smithsonian Office of Advancement  /  2017 Annual Report

Beginning with our selection of Kusama’s Obliteration Room at the Hirshhorn for the cover, the report adopts a theme of dots, spotlighting notable Smithsonian activities.

  • Covers, front and back, show Yayoi Kusama’s “Obliteration Room” at the Hirshhorn before and after visitors placed colored circular stickers.
  • The contents feature a photo of Yayoi Kusama in her “Infinity Room” wearing a dress that mimics her designs with dots printed in a gloss varnish.
  • Custom typography and dots begin the Secretary’s essay.
  • A section highlighting Smithsonian work in the nature has a photograph of a whale breaching.
  • Outreach efforts are highlighted with spot illustrations of people of many ethnicities.
  • Dots are incorporated into a spread featuring notable statistics
  • The financial report features tables, pie, line, and bar graphs.
  • Stickers from Yayoi Kusama’s “Obliteration Room&rdquo were included with the report for reader participation.
